Love Does:
This weeks quote is from the book “Love Does” by Bob Goff (It also happens to be one of my favorite books)
There is only one invitation it would kill me to refuse, yet I’m tempted to turn it down all the time. I get the invitation every morning when I wake up to actually live a life of complete engagement, a life of whimsy, a life where love does. It doesn’t come in an envelope. It’s ushered in by a sunrise, the sound of a bird, or the smell of coffee drifting lazily from the kitchen. It’s the invitation to actually live, to fully participate in this amazing life for one more day. Nobody turns down an invitation to the White House, but I’ve seen plenty of people turn down an invitation to fully live.
Wow. Isn’t this powerful? Sometimes we just get so focused on striving, busy, and working that we neglect the little things that are actually so incredibly important. Most of the time we have a lot more autonomy, freedom, and choice in our life than we realize.
Research has found that the actual circumstances of our lives are far less important than we typically believe. However, oftentimes we believe that the ideal circumstances must be set in place in order for our to live and feel the way that Bob describes.
Fortunately, that’s not at all true. We can live with whimsy and delight in a wonderful cup of coffee wherever we are and regardless of our season. We can nurture our small gifts and enjoy a sunset today just as much as we could if we were living our ‘perfect life.’
