I thought that I would make a short list of my favorite travel books. Although it was not my intent, all 5 of these books are based on true stories and the actual travel experiences of the writer.
Travel memoirs are certainly one of my favorite genres of books to read and I hope you check out some of the ones listed below if you haven’t already read them.
Vagabonding is more of a travel guide with lots of advice and specific websites and resources. If you’re planning an upcoming trip, it would be a great book to check out before you leave.
These are not ranked in any particular order.
2. Hope Runs: An American Tourist, A Kenyan boy, a Journey of Redemption
3. Vagabonding
4. Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love & Redemption
Which one should I start with?
Good question. If you want to learn more about long-term travel in general, I would check out Vagabonding. If you are more interested in reading personal stories and experiences or if you would live to learn more about life in Africa I would recommend either Hope Runs or Kisses from Katie.
If you want to read about experiences from all over the world I would start with either Eat Pray Love or The Lost Girls.
So many of us have lists and Pinterest boards full of countries, cities, and places that we dream of visiting. I find that reading travel books is a great way to ease my wanderlust while I am not traveling. I also think that books allow us to identify with an experience without actually making the trip ourselves.
What other travel books have you read or would you recommend?
