What Makes Your Unique?
I’ve always sort of considered myself to be quirky. A girl who does things a little differently than most…or as Apple would say “a square peg in a round hole”
For example, the sound of someone biting into an apple really seems to make me cringe, and I would much rather stay home and read a book than go out. 90% of my wardrobe is blue and I rarely brush my hair more than a couple of times a week.
However, something that I’ve learned over the past few years is that our strangest qualities or characteristics are often the things that people love the most about us. I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone tell me that they miss me because I’m just like everyone else. Of course not. They miss the quirks.

Even the the things that drive them crazy at times may also be the things that they suddenly miss!
This has certainly happened throughout the past two months of being back after the World Race. I really love this quote from the book “Delaying the Real World” by Colleen Kinder
“I became more convinced every day of my guiding mantra: it almost always serves you to do things a bit differently than most. You gain uncommon expertise, find a path more tailored to who you are, taste something truly unique, and set yourself apart for the rest of your life”
So, here is your actionable for the day.
Make a list of your quirks, the things that make you unique.
Maybe you can’t think of more than 1 or 2. That’s ok. Ask your best friend, your boyfriend or spouse, or even your parents what they think. I’m sure they will have multiple ideas for you. This is also a great question for any ‘new-ish’ friends that you have. Someone who has only known you for a few months will probably be really good at picking out the little things that differentiate you.
Don’t be afraid to be you. Maybe there is even a way to use those quirks to benefit someone else or the world?
